A broken mechanic to deal harebrained amount of equipment casualty .
With the modish intro of the Honour Mode difficulty for Baldur ’s Gate 3 , the plot notes mention a feature film called DRS . It is something that has been in the game all along , but what is it and how does it involve our gameplay ?
What is DRS in Baldur’s Gate 3?
DRS stands forDamage Rider Source . When doing the damage reckoning for fire and ambush , the game regard two type of equipment casualty instances : Sources and Riders .
ARideris superfluous harm added to the base tone-beginning when sealed condition are met . This include things like the Callous Glow Ring , which deals 2 excess radiant damage to creatures that are illuminated , or the Horns of the Berserker , which deal 2 extra necrotic damage as long as you are n’t full health .
ASourceis an item-by-item example of damage , such as a normal onset or a spell , which is plow as base scathe . Sources can spark Riders , but some Riders can also behave as separate Sources .
An example of this is theTavern Brawlerfeat , which append your Strength modifier as a separatesourceof damage when doing the calculation . Therefore , a part having thisfeatand wear off the Callous Glow Ring would trigger the redundant radiant damagetwiceevery time it hits with unarmed attacks : once as a passenger of the base onset , and once as a rider of the Tavern Brawler hurt ( see image ) .
These rider that can act as disjoined sources and trigger off other riders , are calledDamage Rider Sources . Like Tavern Brawler , other example of this are Sneak Attack , Hunter ’s Mark , Divine Strike , and Hex .

How to use DRS in Baldur’s Gate 3
Knowing this , gamers can make anatomy to shout the mechanic . An lesson of this would be confound a Lightning Jabber ( which deals 1d4 extra lightning scathe when throw off ) with Sneak Attack while outwear Stalker Gloves ( your Sneak Attack softwood 1d4 extra forcefulness price ) , having disgorge Hunter ’s Mark on your target for an extra 1d6 terms . Each of these observe instances is a DRS , which means that while they have been triggered by a basic contrive fire , they can also trigger separate instances of riders .
Do all this while wearing point that produce extra damage as riders ( like the Callous Glow Ring , Arcane Charges , the Horns of the Berserker , the Gloves of Uninhibited Kushigo , or the Ring of Flinging ) , and all those riders would trigger again for each separate instance of DRS ( once for the Sneak Attack , again for Hunter ’s Mark , again for the Stalker Gloves , etc ) . If done properly , you would be dealing unreasonable amounts of harm for a exclusive javelin throw .
Changes to DRS in BG3
This is not how damage is applied in Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition ; a different interpretation of the rule is used by Baldur ’s Gate 3 . Larian chose a dissimilar damage mechanic that allows for huge stacks of damage , to give player the chance of creating overcome build which would n’t otherwise be potential .
TheHonour Modedifficulty removes DRS , spend a penny certain the extra instances of damage are only add together once each attack , which resembles how the damage act in tabletop Dungeons & Dragons .
