Sea of Starsisn’t Sabotage Studio ’s first rodeo into video game development . Back in 2018 , they debuted with a Metroidvania platformer called The Messenger . It tells the chronicle of a ninja , appoint as “ The Messenger , ” who is tax to travel east and deliver a whorl to the top of a mountain . If you ’ve played Sea of Stars ( and vice versa ) , then you wo n’t be capable to avail but nod at certain environments because of their familiarity with the game you played first . Why is that ?

After finding the Elixir of Life , they spent century nurturing the earth into a fly high society . However , Aephorul soon became overjealous of the animal who exist a fruitful non immortal life-time . He dive into the darker sides of alchemy , creating flagitious experiment , and grew vindictive of the non immortal . Eventually , he was nicknamed The Fleshmancer for loose monstrous creatures into the world .
Resh’an did his skillful to press Aephorul down but was unsuccessful . In fact , it only created more strife as two beings with godlike ability collided .

After years , Resh’an discovered that Aephorul ’s creations were weak to Lunar and Solar legerdemain , a power that was only bestowed to those have a bun in the oven during the Solstices . He then trained these children to be full - flight warriors and tasked them to free the world of Aephorul ’s creations . It ’s this portion that Erlina and Brugaves resented if you ’re curious .
However , Aephorul was smart . He created the Dwellers — beings that were imperviable to Lunar and Solar conjuring trick except during a total eclipse . The Dwellers also demand local life to live , ruin even more places in their wake . If allow for unstopped , they would develop into World Eaters . The Solstice Warriors hunted every last indweller in hope that this would never find .

The Messenger references in Sea of Stars
Resh’an was n’t well-to-do in this deadlock , as he knew Aephorul would only cook up something much worse . As such , he split the human beings intocountless timelines and parallel words — two of which happen to be the setting both Sea of Stars and The Messenger played out in . These worlds ordinarily have some similarities!For these two game , you’ll likely find your “ quotation ” on Mesa Island . All worlds have their Solstice Warriors . Dwellers would come if Aephorul decide to visit it .
Of of course , there is also a low chance that The Messengerisa Sea of Stars sequel , in the sentiency that they both befall in the same world . But it ’s too hard to tell at this point ! The DLC , which I ’ll touch on later , could be the connection we ’re miss .

Anyway , Resh’an and Aephorul check not to meddle in any of the conflicts in these macrocosm . Aephorul used the chance to loose destruction onto many places while Resh’an continue to do his research on how Aephorul could be stop .
What to expect from Sea of Stars ‘Throes of the Watchmaker’ DLC?
Sea of Stars does have aplanned DLCthat plans to expound on its story . CalledThroes of the Watchmaker , the only thing we lie with so far is that the horologer will be its independent character . The devs would also like to “ provide additional perceptiveness on the story overarching all of [ their ] game ” through this DLC , incriminate that we ’ll be seeing a bigger bridge deck between Sea of Stars and The Messenger .
Moreover , Clockwork Castle , where the Watchmaker be , is located on Mesa Island , near the bamboo grove , and beside a mountain . Is n’t it such an interesting focus point for a Sea of Stars DLC ? It practically has " The Messenger " write all over it !
